I created a painting in acrylic paint of a classic Italian dish: the Caprese salad consisting of fresh tomatoes, creamy mozzarella and aromatic basil leaves. The vibrant colours of the Caprese ingredients stand out powerfully against the light-coloured background, creating a striking visual effect.
I chose to depict the Caprese as a tower with the ingredients as layers. The interplay between the colours and shapes of the elements creates a sense of symmetry and balance in the composition, drawing the viewer’s gaze to the central point of the painting. As an artist, I find it challenging to depict food in a way that invites others to see its beauty and feel like eating it.
